Johnny and Colin's weekend March 27-29, 2015

So Friday we started by getting our instructions and a list from Lucas. Our first job was to sort the pots in the tool shed. After deciding which pots were worth keeping and which one has cracks and chips we signed out the RTV and brought the pots we are keeping to the hoop house to be organized and put away. Colin and Lucas spent a good amount of time prepping the back wall for Monday’s wall building class. We were left with bulb crate full of old and broken plant tags that needed to be drilled out and fixed so that the stakes can be re used. We got about half done and it was getting time to clean up. We helped organize the tractor bay with the other groups and locked up for the day.

We spent most of the day cutting down the grasses beside the rose garden. We could only do the exposed grasses because the rest were covered in ice and or snow. Lucas wanted the compost from the grasses on the spruce farm so that the organic material will decompose back into the soil. After we completed the cutting of the grasses we then continued in the spruce farm to limb-up the spruce trees to clear some room for a new path that is going to be in the works for the gardens as well as removing any dead branches from the spruce trees.  As the day progressed we then picked up some large silver maple branches up off the property and placed them in a pile to be put through the wood chipper by Lucas at a later date. We then finished up our day with getting a start on pruning back the hydrangeas, followed by clean up and putting tools away and locking up for another finished day.

So the final day we began with our sign in and gathering of needed tools to finish the job we started on Saturday with the hydrangea pruning, after finishing that up we spent some much needed time perfecting the jobs completed on Friday, and Saturday as best as the weather conditions would permit us too. We continued our day with the removal of the snow fences in the rose garden and removed the metal posts used to place the fence except for one the ground was still just to frozen to remove it properly. We then did our cleanup of our work areas as best as possible and the excess debris left over in the garden beds. The end of the weekend was near we just needed to clean up and put away our tools and make sure everything is away before finishing our weekend.
