This
week at Cuddy Gardens,
This
week started off with grass cutting, Eric on the riding mower and me with the
push mower. I learned which lawns needed
to be cut and at what specific heights…as a well-manicured and healthy lawn is
very important. The thunder rolled and torrential
rain ensued, forcing everyone to find shelter.
Consolidating the hoop house was the name of the game for me! Tuesday saw increasing humidity and more
rain. All good though because we were
beautifying the front of the Hatchery with dusty miller, salvia, and
zinnias. After that it was off to the
rose garden to do some planting, battle weeds, and try to stem the tide of the
increasing rose chafer population. Rose
chafers are nasty little bugs with an appetite for roses and each other…and the
only way we can deal with them is by soaking them with soap and water.
Wednesday
began with a little weeding, but for the most part was spent doing divisions
and transplanting to re-stock the Cuddy Garden nursery supply. Eric and I potted up a bunch of lovely
woodland plants: Canadian and European
Ginger, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Lenten Rose, and a bunch of Primrose to name a
few. Thursday and Friday have been much
the same…only it’s been a new group of plants to pot. Everything from Ostrich Ferns and Dianthus to
Echinacea and Gentian…the hoop houses are quickly filling up again!
By
the way, our next big plant sale is August 16th, 10am to 4pm
Cheers,
Sharri
